( Gerry’s part 6)

You know some times you have bad days and some times
good. Today was one of those not so bad days.

As I have told you, my computer gives me messages that
the operating system is not Genuine and that I loaded
some new pirated software to see if I could get rid of
the message and now my computer is hung up and doesn’t
run at all.

Well here in Pattaya there is one shop that will look
at any computer problem for 200 baht. Yup, that’s
six bucks. So at 11 this morning drag the computer to
the shop. Explain the problem and they can say, can
we reformat?… Hell, yes.

So they reformat. I should have told them to backup
… that way they would have saved the drivers I had
downloaded but I didn’t and they had to download the
drivers themselves. That took a couple of hours. So
by 3 PM, my computer is still under the knife.

Well, the guy finally sez it’s done. I check and by
gosh I have an operating system. I sez it would be
nice to have excel and word as well. He shows me
he’s loaded not only the operating system but almost
every concievable program that any normal person would
want. Virus protection, adware, photo and DVD
viewers, Office, Photoshop CS, etc. I would have be a
good day but it took four hours, cost me four bucks
… not counting the beers I was forced to buy from
the TOPS supermarket in the basement of the IT center
at the lowest price in town.

Hey, I basically have yer loaded computer and all for
6 bucks. I am getting out of the purchasing the
pirated software. Just bring the machine here and the
boys load all the software you want and it all runs.

They didn’t have encarta. I must tell them to add
encarta to the list. You need an atlas when you are
travelling. Oh, I forgot about GPS.

Yup, I’m 6 – 0 , oh well, life could be worse, it’s
better than the alternative. , .
